2021 Downtown Hackensack
Looking back and moving forward

With the year coming to a close, we can honestly say 2021 changed the entire direction for The SACK, literally and figuratively. It all started in May, with the opening of our two-way Main Street—a move that has been long-awaited by businesses and residents alike. A game-changer that now offers everyone easy access to everything. 2021 also brought our community even closer together with a year full of events starting with our Juneteenth festival, celebrating diversity and inclusion. With the kickoff to summer, came Food Truck Fridays—a delicious opportunity for residents to come out and discover an array of eclectic eats right on Main Street. We also were proud to restore balance back in all of our lives and even improve our downward dog poses with the Yoga in the SACK series. Summer was also the season we showcased all sorts of new talent with Sounds of the Summer and Open Mic Night. Two standout summer events that offered residents the chance to reconnect under the clear night sky and enjoy first-class entertainment. To kick off fall, we unveiled our signature reboot of Hackensack’s Oktoberfest event— SACKTOBERFEST. With the best brews, international cuisine and an all-star lineup of bands, this new fall celebration secured itself for a return in 2022. And then it was onto the holiday season for our traditional tree lighting on the Courthouse Green and holiday shows at the local HACPAC. Now we’re ready to end the year on a high note with bars and restaurants gearing up for their own new year celebrations. Looking back on 2021, it’s hard not to see how all this change definitely brought this uncut gem of new jersey into a new era of enlightenment for the SACK. So here’s to 2022 and beyond, and thank you for continuing to take the ride with us.
