Comfort Food Finds on Main Street

There’s no denying our tastes change from season to season—especially in winter. The time we all yearn for guilty pleasures to satisfy our appetites or sweet tooth. With Main Street back in full swing, there are an array of restaurants, bars, bake shops and coffee houses serving up all types of delicious choices to feed any comfort food fix. Here are a few of our iconic favorites that made our list.

Mac & Cheese
Definitely at the top of the list when it comes to comfort food cuisine. Over the years, restaurants have cooked up all sorts of variations. A big recent standout is the Baked Mac & Cheese at Cap’s on Main—made with aged cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs and an optional generous drizzle of infused truffle oil.

Empanadas
This tasty hand-held classic is a staple of Spanish, Southern European, and Latin American cuisine. Empanadas are fried or baked pastry pockets filled with all sorts of savory fillings. Casual Habana Cafe tops the list with their crispy yet flaky empanadas filled with manchego cheese and spinach, imported brie and mushroom, spicy oxtail meat, guava and cheese and more.

Hamburger
The carnivorous classic. Nothing says comfort food better than biting into a juicy, tender burger, and the Sidebar at the National Hotel is worth the visit for such an experience. Their Classic Burger is served on a brioche bun topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles and your choice of cheese. Don’t forget the crispy fries!

Crumb Cake
Originating in Germany and Poland, the crumb cake, also known as Streuselkuchen, is a cake smothered with sweet crumb toppings (streusel). If you’re on Main Street, there’s no better place to satisfy your crumb craving than B&W Bakery. For over 90 years ago in Hackensack, they have been serving up their legendary New Jersey-style crumb cake.

Honestly, there are so many more comfort food finds on Main Street.
