Pride Month comes to Hackensack
What started out as a protest in front of New York’s Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969, has turned into a movement. A community with many voices wanting to be heard. Today, across the state of New Jersey, alliances, support groups and foundations have become pulpits and support systems for the LGBTQ community. Even in our very own Atlantic Street Park, the city of Hackensack proudly raised the rainbow flag on June 1 as a symbol of solidarity. Showing that the merchants and residents of Main Street are committed to welcoming all individuals who are a part of our diverse culture.
Merchants like Caps on Main are also committed to creating a safe space for all walks of life. With Pride Month here, they are proud to be hosting LGBTQ night every Wednesday in June. Stop in for a chance to connect over cocktails.
Based in Hackensack, Buddies of New Jersey, Inc. is an organization within the LGBTQ community devoted to servicing individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. From testing to counseling, this organization has been providing needed care for over three decades with the help of donations and volunteers.
As for the future, The SACK Business Alliance is committed to keeping inclusion alive on Main Street. Through our initiatives and events, we are focused on ensuring everyone has a voice in our community and the opportunity to be heard.
