Meet the Merchant:  Heschel: “We are the premier retailer for fire, rescue, law enforcement, and security uniforms and accessories, not just in New Jersey and New York, but nationwide and internationally. We have a full embroidery department and tailor shop on premises, and we design and custom-make insignias and garments.”

Jason: “My dad started this business in Paramus in 1956 and moved it to Hackensack in 2004. I was born and raised in Hackensack and used to come over here after school. My dad felt that the city was very welcoming to him and wanted to give back. He was actually one of the founders of the Main Street Business Alliance.”

Heschel: “In order for the city to grow, the infrastructure must be there. The intersections need to be fixed, so people feel safe crossing the street. Ample parking and clean sidewalks. They’re changing Main Street to be two-way, which will be a big help.”

Jason: “The history of this city is just amazing. I feel like Hackensack is prime territory for redevelopment, but it needs to be done responsibly and have a positive influence on the city. In order to attract visitors and new residents, we have to make the area attractive and easily accessible, with new paint and pavement. It’s all starting to come together now with the changes on Main Street.” – Jason and Heschel Some
