With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward Decker, Chairman of the Main Street Business Alliance (MSBA) and longtime advocate for our community. Edward’s vision, dedication, and passion for revitalizing Main Street in Hackensack have left an indelible mark on our city.

As the President of Musically Yours, a Main Street staple for over 15 years, Edward’s expertise and craftsmanship supported countless businesses and organizations. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a renowned seven-string guitarist who brought joy and inspiration to audiences worldwide alongside contemporary jazz singer Tony DeSare and many others.

Edward served on the MSBA board since its inception in 2004 and was recently appointed Chairman. His leadership and unwavering commitment united us in our shared goal of making Main Street a vibrant destination for commerce and culture.

While we mourn the loss of our friend and leader, we remain steadfast in our mission to carry forward the work Edward so passionately championed. His dedication will continue to inspire us as we strive to honor his legacy by ensuring Main Street’s continued growth and success.

In remembrance of Edward’s extraordinary contributions, the MSBA will continue to work with the passion and determination he displayed every day. Together, we will build on the foundation he helped create, ensuring his vision lives on.

John T. Peters, Executive Director of the MSBA, said, “This is a huge loss not only for the MSBA and the HACPAC, but for all of Hackensack. We extend our deepest condolences to Edward’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness, talent, and generosity. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will always be a part of Main Street in Hackensack.”

Eric Anderson, the Vice-Chairman of the MSBA, writes, “Eddie’s passing is an immeasurable loss for all of us at the Main Street Business Alliance and for the entire Hackensack community. He was not just our Chairman—he was a visionary, a mentor, and a dear friend who inspired us with his passion and tireless dedication.”

Bryan Hekemian, a former Chairman of the MSBA, said, “Eddie was so talented in so many ways; an accomplished musician, a smart businessman/real estate investor, and a tremendous asset to the MSBA and the HACPAC Boards.  Most importantly, Eddie had a great love for his family. He will be missed by all.”

Jerry Lombardo, also a former Chairman of the MSBA said “Ed had an energy and a vision for Main Street that few had. He had a knack for thinking outside the box, he saw trends before they would happen and was able to anticipate the next “big thing. He also had a wonderful ability to blend his artistic, musical, and business talents into a vibe that made doing anything with Eddie cool. Some of us see things as they are. Ed’s brilliance was an ability to see and imagine what could be.”

Details about services and ways to honor Edward’s memory will be shared in the coming days.
